Microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasion is a nonsurgical, minimally invasive procedure use to renew overall skin tone and texture, and there is very little needed in preparation for it, but noticeable results are immediate. It is safe for most skin types and colors. It can improve the following conditions:
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Hyperpigmentation, age spots and brown spots
- Sun damage
- Enlarged pores
- Acne, acne scars, and blackheads
- Stretch marks
- Uneven or dull-looking skin tone and texture
- Melasma
It is an in-office procedure that takes about one hour and performed by a licensed and certified skin care professional. Gayle is doing this as a nurse-practitioner. No anesthesia or numbing is required. A diamond-tip handpiece with suction is used while lying down on a massage table, and this will exfoliate away the outer layer of skin in targeted areas. At the end of treatment, a moisturizer and sunscreen will be applied.
The most common side effect of microdermabrasion is a sunburn-like tenderness and redness that generally goes away within a few hours after treatment. Minor bruising may rarely occur. Regular activities may be resumed immediately, but moisturizers and a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least 30 SPF needs to be worn daily.
